Colloquium Talk: Therese Cory

Prof. Therese Cory, John and Jean Oesterle Associate Professor of Thomistic Studes, will give a talk on Friday, October 29, at 3:00, titled: “Knowing as Being? Modeling the Mind in Aquinas".

Abstract:
How do we model the mind in the history of philosophy?  Traditionally, connective and visual imagery dominates.  In this talk, I identify a neglected model of mind stretching from Alexander of Aphrodisias into the medieval Scholastic tradition, according to which knowing consists in having, and living in accord with, a certain kind of being, which I call "self-manifesting being."
